If you watched the end of Heated Rivalry and thought “wouldn’t it be nice if the Irina Foundation were real,” congratulations: the universe is officially showing off.
A Press Release, But Make It Fan Canon
Accent Aigu Entertainment (AAE), the production company behind Heated Rivalry — the Crave and HBO Max smash hit adapted from Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novels — has launched the Irina Foundation, a real-life private independent fund dedicated to championing inclusivity and mental well-being through participation in sports and the arts, with a focus on LGBTQIA2S+ and underserved communities. By supporting organizations that create these spaces, the Foundation aims to help individuals build meaningful connections while fostering stronger, more connected communities around them.
And because this franchise has never once done anything halfway: Kate Spade New York will serve as the Foundation’s inaugural donor, with Harry’s joining as an early supporter. Yes, the charity invented by two fictional hockey players now has a real press release, real corporate donors, and (presumably) a real compliance officer named Gary.
Why “Irina” Hits Different
Book fans already know. In Reid’s series, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov announce the Irina Foundation — named in honor of Ilya’s mother — at the press conference that doubles as their public coming out. It’s the emotional payoff of the whole story: two rivals-turned-lovers taking the most private thing in their lives and turning it into something public, generous, and built to outlast them.
So this isn’t just a cute branding exercise. It’s the show’s thesis statement with a bank account. Heated Rivalry was always a story about mental health, loneliness in professional sports, and finding your people — and now the people who made it are funding exactly that, in the real world, for LGBTQIA2S+ folks who need it.
We Are Simply Not Okay
We have reached the stage of fandom where the fake charity gets a Toronto dateline, a fashion house on the donor list, and its own launch announcement. Somewhere, a fanfic writer who typed “the Irina Foundation” into a Google Doc at 2 a.m. is staring into the middle distance and taking a very long sip of coffee.
The Foundation builds on AAE’s ongoing philanthropic efforts over the past year — and honestly, between this, Season 2, and Rachel Reid’s newly announced Unrivaled, the Game Changers universe is thriving in ways nobody predicted when it was just a hockey romance that made us all cry on public transit.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we have some crying about fictional hockey players to do. For a good cause.
